Friends of  Coffey County Library Burlington Branch was awarded a $1000.00 Local Community Grant from Walmart Emporia, Facility 557, in Emporia, Kansas.

The grant will be used to support the library’s involvement in the afterschool program.  The Burlington Branch library collaborates each year with the Burlington Elementary School to offer weekly after school enrichment programs.   This fall the library plans to carry out a six week STEAM station program with BES students and other youth in our community.  Each week students will  experiment and explore activities in science, technology, engineering, art or math.  The grant will allow  the library to purchase supplies and equipment for Quivervision, Osmo, rockets, Snap Circuits, model lungs, music labs, marble runs and catapults to name a few.  “Learning through fun and games makes a lasting impression and sparks lifelong interest and inspires continued learning”, says Monica Mader, Branch Director at Burlington.

The Friends and Staff of  Coffey County Library Burlington would like to thank the Local Walmart Community Grants program and specifically Walmart Emporia, Facility #557 for investing in and giving  us this new opportunity to serve our community.

Local Walmart Community Grants  are awarded through an open application process and provide funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S.  These local grants are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where they operate and include a variety of organizations.  In 2020, Walmart stores and clubs provided more than $43 million in local grants.  To learn more, visit
