Summer is almost here, and you might wonder what your kids are going to do so they don’t get bored. Well, look no further! The key to your child’s colorful summer fun is right here!!
The Coffey County Libraries are the place to be for Summer Reading kickoff events!
If you are in the Lebo area, celebrate the last day of school with the Lebo branch on May 16th at 11:30 am! Activities and art booths will be available, and lunch will be provided.
On Thursday, May 22nd, head on over to the LeRoy Branch for Ice Cream Sundaes! Ice cream will be served all day.
Join the Burlington Branch on May 23rd at 1:30pm for a Color Party!! Patrons will get to vote on colors May 1-15. The winning color will be the theme for the color party. Staff members and attendees will dress in the winning color, have snacks in that color and play some games related to that color. Patrons can learn about the new Dragon cards and sign up for summer reading that day at the party.
Juggling into the next week at Waverly on May 29th at 10:00am Jay and Leslie Juggling and Other Nonsense will be kicking off Waverly’s summer reading!
The Gridley Branch will be hosting the Emporia Arts Center Art Mobile for their Kickoff Party on June 4th at 11:00 am. Kids will make a craft, paint their own cookies to eat, and have lots of colorful sensory play!
The New Strawn Branch is stoked to kick off summer with a FOAM PARTY!! The foam party will be Thursday, June 5th from 3:30-4:30pm! All of these super fun activities are just the start of summer!!
When the directors of the library branches were asked to name one fun thing that they had going on this summer it was hard for them to choose!
A few to highlight are:
- On June 10th the Emporia Arts Council Art Mobile will be in Waverly at 1:30pm.
- On June 26th at 10:30 the Lebo branch is super excited about Henna with V.
- On Wednesday, July 2nd Gridley will have “Color Our World” tie-dye! Patrons must provide their own shirt, and the library will provide all of the beautiful colors. Sign-up is appreciated to ensure that there are enough supplies available. Two class times will be available: 11:00am & 1:00pm.
- July 10th the Burlington Branch is going to have a sidewalk chalk art contest. Patrons will be assigned a section of the sidewalk where they can create their art. They will be judged, and the winner will receive an art-related prize.
- The New Strawn Library will be hosting a glow parade on Friday July 11th from 8:30-10pm. Families will walk, bike or cart around New Strawn Lake while decorated in all of their glow gear.
- On July 31st, the LeRoy Branch will host a Build-A-Bear Workshop at 1:30pm. Registration will be required and will be open closer to the workshop date.
After an entire summer of fun, on August 1st all of the libraries will partner together and provide free swimming at the Burlington Outside Pool from 6-8pm. These activities barely touch all of the happenings at the Coffey County Library branches! For more details and more summer fun check out the library’s calendar.
