It’s mid August and school is back in session. The libraries are quiet again compared to the atmosphere that came with summer.
The New Strawn Branch Library had a group of approximately 15 youth between the ages of 7-13 that utilized the library all summer. They came to the library to play multi-player computer games on the patron computers. But because there were more kids than computers, this created wait times. The staff decided to pull out “old school” board games to keep them entertained while waiting. The kids played Connect 4, Battleship, Uno, Checkers, Candyland, and Spoons. The branch staff offered snacks and drinks to ease the pain of waiting and being “unplugged”. All of the games played, plus more, are available to check out and enjoy being “unplugged” at home.
Tammy Petrie, New Strawn Branch Director, said “We got to know these kids from New Strawn and their individual personalities. We absolutely love them all! Now that school has resumed and our library is quiet again, we are brainstorming for next summer.”
“Each of the Coffey County Library Branches were the busiest that they have been since the pandemic with children and adults returning to the library to enjoy the summer programs.” Petrie added, “Each library branch had such amazing and fun events and activities to offer their communities. If you didn’t take advantage of them this summer, be sure to check us out next year. We will be ready for you!”
